King’s Day is especially magical for children, and this year we’re bringing some of the most beloved Dutch traditions to San Diego! 🧡 During the event, kids can enjoy a variety of traditional Dutch games and activities, including a festive scavenger hunt and other playful challenges inspired by King’s Day in the Netherlands.
On King’s Day (Koningsdag) in the Netherlands, children set up their own little stalls to sell toys, books, clothes, crafts, and other second-hand treasures they no longer need. It’s a fun and hands-on way for kids to learn about entrepreneurship, bargaining, and Dutch culture — while earning a little pocket money too! 💰
How it works:
✔️ Children bring their own items (used toys, books, games, clothes, art, etc. – no food)
✔️ They can set up a simple stand or sell from a blanket
✔️ Bargaining is encouraged – it’s all part of the fun!
✔️ No professional vendors – this market is just for children
With music, delicious Dutch treats, and plenty of activities for all ages, it will be a wonderful family day out! 🎶🥨
The Vlooienmarkt (Children’s Flea Market)
One of the most exciting King’s Day traditions is the Vlooienmarkt, also known as the vrije markt (children’s flea market) — and your kids can take part right here in San Diego! 🎊
Participation in the flea market is free. If your child would like to take part in the games or the Vlooienmarkt, please let us know in advance by emailing us.
This helps us make sure there is enough space for everyone.
